Gautam Adani Emerges as Richest Indian with Rs 11.6 Lakh Crore Wealth on Hurun List

Billionaire Gautam Adani and his family have topped the 2024 Hurun India rich list with Rs 11.6 lakh crore. The 13th edition of the Hurun India rich list was released on August 29 and refers to the richest Indians in the world. 

“India continues to score Gold in the ‘Wealth Creation Olympics’. The number of billionaires in 2024 Hurun India Rich List hits triple century, with all the top 20 sectors adding new faces to the list! The top 20 sectors all added new faces, showcasing the unstoppable spirit of Indian entrepreneurs as they drive growth across the board," said Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher, Hurun India at the launch of the event.

The Reliance Industries' chairman Mukesh Ambani and HCL technologies' Shiv Nadar clinched the second and the third spot respectively, with a wealth of Rs 10,14,700 crore and Rs 3,14,000 crore. S Poonawalla of Serum Institute of India, occupied the fourth position, followed by Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries. 

Kaivalya Vohra of Zepto made it to the list as the youngest billionaire in India. The 21-year-old founded the $5 billion quick commerce start-up. His co-founder Aadit Palicha (22) is the second youngest on the list. 

The ‘King of the Indian entertainment industry’ Shah Rukh Khan (58) made a debut to Hurun India rich list. The list estimated his wealth to be nearly Rs 7,300 crores, with stakes in Kolkata Knight Riders and Red Chillies Entertainment being the major contributors.

The co-founder of Lenskart, Neha Bansal (42), grabbed a place in the list as the youngest self-made woman entrepreneur.

The report also highlighted the shift in the Indian economy from a service-led to a manufacturing-led model. “Industrial products sector entrepreneurs on the list have seen a remarkable 47 per cent CAGR in their cumulative wealth over the past five years-the highest among all sectors,” adds the report.
