Google, on Friday, announced its decision to take strict measures against the apps of 10 Indian firms that have persistently refused to adhere to the tech giant's app billing policy for an extended duration.

Google stated that several reputable companies have opted not to pay for the benefits they derive from Google Play, instead seeking interim safeguards through legal means. These developers conform to payment regulations enforced by other app stores.

"We’ve always respected local laws. For years, no court or regulator has denied Google Play’s right to charge for the value and services we provide. On 9 February, the Supreme Court also refused to interfere with our right to do so. While some of the developers that were refused interim protection have started fairly participating in our business model and ecosystem, others choose to find ways to not do so," Google stated in a blog post.

The blog further added that after giving these companies over three years, including three weeks subsequent to the Supreme Court's directive, Google is now implementing essential measures to ensure that its policies are uniformly enforced across the ecosystem.

The enforcement of Google's policy may involve the elimination of apps that fail to comply with Google Play. However, it clarified that developers are encouraged to reapply for listing on Play by selecting any of the three billing alternatives as outlined in the payment policy of the company.
