The government has set a target of achieving 500 gigawatts of green energy every year for central government owned public sector undertakings (PSUs).

The government has released a detailed agency wise break up on inviting bids for renewable energy projects with total capacity of 50 GW for 2023-24, Moneycontrol reported.

The country's total green energy production reached 125 GW in March 2023, according to Central Electricity Authority.

The government has said that it will float tenders for 15 GW of green energy in first two quarters of current financial year and 10 GW tenders for the last two quarters. The government has appointed NTPC, Sola Energy Corporation of India, NHPC and SJVN as the renewable energy implementing agencies.

The renewable energy implementing agencies will be permitted to bring out bids with or without storage for solar, wind, solar-wind hybrid, round-the-clock (RTC) RE power and so on, Moneycontrol report added.

"We are committed to achieve the target 500 GW by 2030 and the bidding trajectory will provide a further stimulus towards this. The structured bidding trajectory will provide sufficient time to the RE developers to plan their finances, develop their business plans and manage the supply chain more efficiently. This is a golden opportunity of industry to invest in this sector,” Moneycontrol quoted Union minister for power and renewable energy, RK Singh as saying.
