Raksha Bandhan 2024 Bank Holiday: Know if the Banks Around your Area are Open Today

Raksha Bandhan is being celebrated all over India on August 19. Along with Raksha Bandhan, Jhulana Purnima and the birth anniversary of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur is also being observed on Monday. As a holiday, most of the offices, government and private remain closed.  

But if in case you schedule to visit a bank or a financial emergency comes knocking on a holiday, know if the banks around your area are under service today. 

Which states have a bank holiday on August 19? 

Banks in Tripura (Agartala), Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Odisha (Bhubaneshwar), Uttarakhand (Dehradun), Rajasthan (Jaipur), Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur, Lucknow), Himachal Pradesh (Shimla), and Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal).

Reserve Bank of India declares holidays in three categories- Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks’ Closing off Accounts. The central bank has officially designated August 19 as a bank holiday on account of Raksha Bandhan, Jhulana Purnima and birth anniversary of Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya was a king from Tripura and is known as the “Modern Architect of Tripura.” 

Under the Negotiable Instruments Act of the above-mentioned states Raksha Bandhan is a holiday. 

Digital Banking will be available on August 19 

Even on a bank holiday, your banking related needs won’t be postponed as online banking remains a viable option. Digital banking will be an accessible option with just a few clicks on laptop, tablet, or smartphone around-the clock. Services like internet banking, mobile banking, NEFT, and RTGS will be available for customers.
