Jay Shah a name synonymous with Indian cricket administration has been on appointed as the chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC) on August 27. The 35-year-old cricket administrator was elected unopposed as the independent chairman of the ICC. He is the son of the Union home minister, Amit Shah. His tenure will begin from December 1, 2024. 

“Incoming ICC Chair Jay Shah has vowed to prioritise Test cricket in his new role and has promised to allocate more resources to women’s cricket during his tenure,” as per ICC blogpost. 

According to ICC, as cricket is set to make a comeback to the Olympics at the summer games in Los Angeles in 2028, Jay Shah’s role will be crucial.

Career: His journey from holding local to global positions  

Jay Shah was born in 1988 to Amit Shah and Sonal Shah. The 35-year-old cricket administrator graduated with B.Tech degree from Nirma University. He got married to Rishita Patel in 2015. 

His career took a different route altogether and the journey of becoming a big name in the cricket administration began. In 2009, he started working with the Central Board of Cricket Ahmedabad (CBCA), as per a report by PTI. 

He then moved upward and held an important administerial position at state-level with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). In 2013, he became GCA’s joint secretary.

Shah rose to national level in 2015 as he became a member of the finance and marketing committees of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In 2019, he was appointed as the secretary of BCCI.  

His glory in cricket management is not just confined to state and national-level, Shah in 2021 was appointed as President of Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Thus, becoming a chairman of ICC will not be his debut in the world of cricket administration internationally. In fact, he has occupied important positions in ICC as well. 

Net Worth: Know his many sources of income 

Shah’s net worth is reportedly around Rs 124 crore as per the Times Now report. Apart from occupying important positions in the cricket sphere and drawing salaries from there, his source of income expands to his businesses. 

He has nearly 60 per cent stake in Kusum Finserve Private Ltd. He along with Pradeepbhai Kantilal Shah are directors of the firm. The firm incorporated in 2013 specialises in activities related to financial intermediaries, except insurance and pension funding. 

He formerly held the post of director at Temple Enterprise.
