McDonald’s layoffs may be the next on the table in this season of mass layoffs. As per media reports, the fast-food giant has temporarily closed its offices in the United States (US) as it is reportedly preparing to send out notices on layoffs.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), McDonald’s sent an email to its US employees last week, asking them to work from home from Monday to Wednesday. It adds that the company took this work-from-home call only to deliver news about the layoffs, virtually.

However, the report adds that it is not clear as to how many people will be fired. “During the week of April 3, we will communicate key decisions related to roles and staffing levels across the organisation,” the WSJ quoted the email sent to McDonald’s employees about layoffs.

In addition to this, all McDonald’s employees have also been reportedly asked to cancel all in-person meetings that have been scheduled this week.

McDonald’s layoffs were seen coming as in January, the fast-food giant had reportedly said that it would review corporate staffing levels as a part of an updated business strategy. It had said that this move could potentially lead to layoffs in some areas and expansion in others.

If other media reports are to be believed then McDonald’s layoffs may be announced as soon as Wednesday. In the event of a global economic downturn, several companies are laying off employees across sectors.
