Google vs the Competition Commission of India (CCI) saga is still on as the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLAT) agreed to take up the tech giant's appeal against the CCI penalty of Rs 1,337.76 crore. As per latest updates from the Economic Times, the NCLAT has now directed Google to deposit 10 per cent of the penalty amount as of now and scheduled another hearing.
While the exact timeline of the case's hearing is not yet known but the report adds that next hearing is likely to be scheduled around Febnruary 13 and the final one is expected later in April 2023. The NCLAT has also refused to pass any orders on the applications filed by MapMyIndia and others, as per the report.

With this, as of now, the NCLAT has refused to accept Google's request for an interim stay on the ruling under scanner.
For the unversed, the CCI had slapped Google with a penalty of Rs 1,337.76 crore for alleged 'anti-competitive' practices with regards to Android mobile devices. While the watchdog slapped the tech giant with more than one fine, it is the order to do with Android mobile devices that has been taken to the NCLAT by Google.
Before the hearing today, media reports mentioned that Google has appealed against CCI's penalty in the hope of asking for a stay on the same. It was even reported that the Google believed that CCI's penalty order had the potential to harm Indian users and the Android device ecosystem as for starters, it may have raised costs.
