Telecom companies Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are under an investigation by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for fixed line broadband plans being offered by the top two firms following worries about potential tariff and broadcast rules violation.
The investigation came after Bharti Airtel asked TRAI to block JioFiber Backup Plans as it said that they were creating an uneven playing field in direct to home (DTH) digital TV market and thus hurting competition and consumer interests. In response, Jio requested TRAI to warn Airtel against making baseless allegations, The Economic Times reported quoting a senior official.
Bhart Airtel alleged that Reliance Jio had been broadcasting live TV and over-the-top (OTT) applications which was a breach of downlinking rules. However, Jio has denied any breach of broadcasting downlinking rules. Meanwhile, Tata Play has accused both Jio and Bharti Airtel of predatory pricing by offering bundled products like live TV and access to OTT applications with their broadband plans.

Backed by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Jio, which launched its services in 2016 has disrupted the Indian telecom market by providing free calls and data at dirt cheap prices to become the country's top telecom player surpassing Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea.
