TANEIRA Opens Its Weavershala In Sirumugai

Taneira, from the stable of Tata group, has opened its 'Weavershala' in Sirumugai near here, the company said.

The initiative is aimed at modernising the southern silk weaving techniques and preserving traditional methods of hand-weaving for the future generations, Taneria CEO, Ambuj Narayan told reporters here on Wednesday.

The Weavershala significantly emphasises on helping the weavers to work in a well-structured and comfortabe environment by upgrading the infrastructure and maintaining hygeine, he said.

There are 20 new age looms with 30 weavers, who were in the profession for more than 50 years and can make 200 silk saris particularly Southern Kancheepuram saris, per month, he noted.

Taneira also opened its first retail store in the city on the occasion, the fifth in Tamil Nadu and 39th in India.

Silk saris from all clusters like Banaras, ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2.5 lakh would be available, Narayan said.

Titan Company Ltd Managing Director, C K Venkataraman and Magis Silks owner, R Malligarjun were present at the inaugural.
