Tata Sons Chairperson N Chandrasekaran will head Maharashtra's new economic advisory council, the state government informed on Thursday. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the Legislative Council in Nagpur.
Fadnavis said, “To make Maharashtra a trillion-dollar economy, the state government is setting up an Economic Advisory Council, to be headed by Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran.”
He added that the new advisory council will function as a private research organisation that will focus on issues related to agriculture, banking, engineering and education, among others.
It was also informed that the state government will also be focusing on certain 'aspirational' regions to enhance the state's human development index.

Earlier this month, Chandrasekaran was also appointed as the Chair of B20 India. As such, he will be leading the business agenda during India’s G20 presidency.
Chandrasekaran had joined the Board of Tata Sons in October 2016 and was elevated to the position of Chairman in January 2017. He became the first non-Parsi to head the Tata Group of companies.
Following the completion of his five-year term as Chairman earlier this year, he was re-appointed as Chaiman of Tata Sons for another five years and will continue in the post until 2027.
Chandrasekaran is also the Chairman of Air India, after Tata Group acquired the airline earlier this year.
