Global tech giants such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google have announced layoffs across their global workforce which have affected Indian employees as well. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, was the latest to join the layoff bandwagon when it announced last week that about 12,000 of its employees are terminated.
The global economic downturn has also had its impact in India where domestic IT and other tech-enabled companies have also turned to layoffs as cost-cutting measure. Recently, Indian companies such as Wipro, Swiggy and ShareChat handed pink slips to some of their employees. Layoffs have also been witnessed across the Indian start-up space.
