Mumbai, December 8: Many health insurance providers have launched products to cater to the health issues of women including plans, which provide financial aid in case of medical emergencies.
Issues arising from lack of maternal health care, breast cancer, anaemia are a few health problems braved by women. Insurers like Bajaj Allianz General Insurance and Tata AIG General Insurance offer women-specific health insurance and provide cover for critical illnesses. 
HDFC ERGO General Insurance has a comprehensive insurance policy ‘my:health Woman Suraksha policy’ specially designed for women to address all health-related concerns and provide unique benefits like stem cell harvesting.
Anurag Rastogi, President - Accident and Health, HDFC ERGO General Insurance said, “We believe that a woman’s health and wellness is of utmost importance for the woman herself as well as her entire family. Unfortunately, her health usually takes a back-seat while attending to other priorities in her day-to-day routine. This results in women often, falling prey to myriad illnesses, including critical ones. Taking cognisance of this, we have my:health Woman Suraksha insurance policy to cover women against critical illnesses, various women specific surgeries and even osteoporosis”.

Further, the policy covers events like loss of job due to specific illnesses, complications related to pregnancy as well as neo-natal complications. Moreover, women can also avail of wellness services like health coaching, nutrition and weight management services, discounts at pharmacies too. Additionally, the policy also provides counselling on stress management, pregnancy care and work life balance in which today’s new age women face difficulties. The policy offers women aged between 18-65 years with multiple sum insured options, starting from Rs 1 lakh up to 1 crore.
“Through this policy, we intend to ensure the overall well-being of women and therefore offer several wellness services like diet consultation, health tips including fitness discounts at renewal and preventive health check-up at every renewal”, added Rastogi.

Tata AIG General Insurance’s Wellsurance Woman Policy covers critical illness benefit upon diagnosis of cancer of specified severity, first heart attack of specified severity, stroke resulting in permanent symptoms, kidney failure requiring regular dialysis, coma of specified severity, total blindness (due to acute sickness or accident), major burns, multiple sclerosis with persisting symptoms, permanent paralysis of limbs, open chest CABG and major organ or bone marrow transplant are few to mention.
Similarly, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance’s Women Specific Critical Illness Plan covers breast cancer, fallopian tube cancer, uterine or cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, vaginal cancer, permanent paralysis of limbs, multitrauma and burns. It also covers congenital disability benefit and under this an amount equal to 50 per cent of the sum assured will be payable for down’s syndrome, congenital cyanotic heart disease, tracheo-esophageal fistula, cleft palate with or without cleft lip and spina bifida. However, special exclusions are applicable under this benefit.
While a standard health insurance plan could help us be ready for emergencies, it may fall short in case you have specific needs. In such a case, it’s always better and advisable to go for a women-specific health insurance plan, which would provide complete solution.
