As we approach the end of 2023, it’s time to address the various financial responsibilities that you should wrap up before the year comes to an end. Among the many important ones is updating your Aadhaar details on the UIDAI portal, the last date for which is less than two weeks away, i.e., December 14, 2023.

You Can Update Your Aadhaar For Free Until December 14:

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had in September 2023 extended the free Aadhaar update service for another three months – from September 14 to December 14, 2023. However, this service is free only on the myAadhaar portal. Should you visit the Aadhaar centre to get the update done, you will have to pay a fee of Rs 50 for the service.

“Based on the positive response from the residents, it is decided to extend the facility for three more months i.e. from 15.09.2023 to 14.12.2023. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue free of cost through myAadhaar portal up to 14.12.2023,” UIDAI said in a memorandum.

UIDAI is urging residents, particularly those whose Aadhaar is a decade old and hasn’t been updated, to upload identity and address proof documents for revalidation of their demographic information. If changes are required in demographic details, such as name, date of birth, or address, residents can utilise the online update service or visit the nearest Aadhaar centre.

So, if you need to update your Aadhaar details, you can do so for free before December 14, 2023 on the UIDAI portal.

Why Update Aadhaar?

This is essential because UIDAI, the authority overseeing Aadhaar, requires Indian residents to update their details every 10 years. This ensures that the information in the database stays accurate and current.

According to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) official site: “Changes in life events such as marriage may lead to residents changing their basic demographic details, such as name and address. Address and mobile number could also change due to migration to newer locations. Residents may also want changes in their relative’s details due to changes in life events such as marriage, death of a relative etc. In addition, residents could have other personal reasons to change their mobile number, email address etc."

Also, the government has introduced rules for updating the Aadhaar details of children. According to these guidelines, residents should provide all biometrics for updates when the child reaches 15 years of age. This will ensure the accuracy and currency of the child’s Aadhaar data as they grow older.
