Greenzo Energy known for its expertise in manufacturing alkaline electrolysers has announced that it has secured a green hydrogen project at the 1320 megawatt Ennore SEZ supercritical thermal power plant owned by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO).

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been appointed as the project engineering management firm by TANGEDCO.

As part of this initiative, Greenzo will establish a hydrogen generation plant with a capacity of 20 normal cubic metres per hour. This is a key development in India's ambitious push towards green hydrogen. The project is scheduled to be completed within the stipulated timeline, signalling rapid progress in advancing clean energy infrastructure. The electrolysers for this project will be manufactured by Greenzo Energy's facility in Sanand in Gujarat reinforcing the company's position as a leader in the green hydrogen sector.

This project is expected to further bolster its role in delivering zero-emissions energy solutions. The electrolysers, developed with technical assistance of IIT Delhi, are designed to be energy efficient. They consume 42 kwh of electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen compare to the typical 50 to 55 kwh used by conventional alkaline electrolysers. This reduction in power consumption lowers the cost of hydrogen to around rupees 270 to 280 per kilogramme, making it more economical.

In addition, Greenzo is constructing at 250-megawatt electrolyser manufacturing plant in Gujarat scheduled for commissioning in December 2024. This follows earlier plans to launch the facility by March 2024 highlighting the company’s commitment to scaling green hydrogen production in India.
