Apple has started training people to make iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models at its factory in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu.
The assembling of the company's premium models of the upcoming iPhone 16 series will take place at its partner's Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu.
As per a report by Inc42, the assembling will be done "within weeks" ahead of its global launch and the company is hoping to make iPhone 16 models available for the country on the same day as the worldwide sale begins.
In July, Apple was reportedly planning to assemble the top-tier Pro and Pro Max models of iPhone 16 for the first time in India.

Apart from initiating its production process in Sriperumbudur, Apple is also keen on looking at its other manufacturing partners in India – Pegatron’s local unit and Tata Group - to start producing the Pro versions in the future.
It is also aiming to produce other products in the coming years. The company is looking forward to rolling out its Air Pod and iPad production in India, early next year.
Apple’s iPhone production in India has rapidly increased in recent years. It is reported that the company has assembled $14 Billion worth of iPhones in India, constituting 14 per cent of its production worldwide. It aims to increase this to 25 per cent of all its iPhones over the next 3-4 years.

The broader growth of India's smartphone market is driven by Apples' iPhone 15 success. The Indian market saw an 8 per cent year-on-year increase in volume and an 18 per cent increase in value during Q1 2024 as per Inc42.
Apple also achieved its highest-ever share in India’s premium smartphone segment in Q1 2024, leading both in value and volume.
According to the report, this premium segment reached a record 20 per cent share by volume and 51 per cent by value of the overall Indian smartphone market.
