OpenAI has launched the much-anticipated o1— the first model in its AI series with reasoning abilities. This is as per a report by YourStory.

It is said that the new AI model can tackle tricky and complex questions better and faster than humans. It can also solve difficult tasks and harder problems related to science, coding and math in comparison to its earlier model because of its reasoning capabilities. Its reasoning capabilities can be useful, especially for researchers and developers cutting across various fields.

Examples like physicists generating formulas for quantum optics, developers building and managing multi-step workflows and healthcare researchers using it to annotate cell sequencing data were quoted as some of the abilities of the new AI model.

The new model is currently in preview move and will soon have updates and enhancements.

The latest model updates could demonstrate similar competency to that of a PhD student on difficult benchmarks on subjects across physics, chemistry, and biology.

It is reported that ChatGPT Plus and Team users can access the o1 models from today. The users can reportedly pick between o1-preview and 01-mini from the model pickers, with initial limits of 30 messages for o1-preview and 50 for o1-mini.

Soon, all ChatGPT Free users will also have access to the o1-mini model.

OpenAI reportedly said that the company has trained these models to spend more time thinking through problems before they respond, more like humans.

By training, their thinking processes can be refined, different strategies can be adopted and mistakes can be recognised, the company further added.

In a bid to assist the developers, OpenAI reportedly is also launching o1-mini—a faster and more affordable reasoning model that's effective in coding tasks.

It is a smaller model and is more budget-friendly for applications that require reasoning skills but don't need extensive general knowledge as it is 80 per cent cheaper than o1-preview.
