Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially unveiled SEMICON India 2024 at India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The event is set for three days and will run from 11 September to 13 September.

"Shaping the Semiconductor Future" is the theme of the event and it is at the forefront of India's ambitious goals in its semiconductor sector.

In three days, the event will reportedly feature over 250 exhibitors and 150 speakers, showcasing India's semiconductor strategy, aimed at transforming the country into a leading centre for semiconductor innovation.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said that India offers an integrated ecosystem for the semiconductor sector, providing stable policies and ease of doing business as per PTI. He said that an investment of over Rs 1.5 lakh crore is pledged in semiconductor manufacturing, with many projects in pipelines.

"Our dream is to have an Indian-made chip in every device in the world. India is targeting a $500 billion size for the electronic sector by the end of the decade from the current $150 billion, he said as per PTI.

He also highlighted that supply chain resilience is critical citing global disruption during the Covid pandemic.

Addressing the chip makers across the world, Modi reportedly said that the country offers a unique proposition of a reformist government and a growing manufacturing base.

PM Modi at a roundtable with semiconductor executives held earlier this week, said that the Indian government would provide a conducive atmosphere for consistent and supportive policies for the semiconductor industry.
