WhatsApp could soon introduce a new feature known as 'secret code'. The feature is designed to enhance chat security and privacy of users.

WhatsApp already offers features to hide chats, but the new addition would add more security to users who are extra protective about their super personal chats when handing over their phone to someone else.

The feature is currently under development and could soon be released to beta testers of the messaging app.

This new feature will allow users to set a unique password for their protected chat folder. It aims to improve the security of sensitive conversations. Users will have the option to enter the code in the app's search bar to access their locked chats, WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp features tracker, has reported.

In addition, the secret code will enable users to lock chats from other devices they own. This update is expected to be available through the Google Play Beta program, specifically in the 2.23.21.9 beta version for Android.

Security measures such as fingerprint recognition, face unlock, or a PIN code are already available on WhatsApp to protect user data. The inclusion of the secret code feature not only boosts the security level but also streamlines the process of finding and opening locked chats.

It is important to note that this feature is not currently available to testers and will be included in an upcoming app update. Users will be able to use a word or emoji for easy access. Users may also be able to change or delete the code whenever they want.

Chat Lock, a feature introduced by WhatsApp in May, allows Android and iOS users to maintain the privacy and security of their messages and conversations by applying locks that require a passcode, fingerprint, or facial recognition.

Locked chat threads will be kept in a separate folder, ensuring the confidentiality of conversations, even if someone gains access to the user's phone. Notifications for these chats will not reveal the sender's name or display message previews.
