In an effort to nurture entrepreneurship in Mumbai, over 30 prominent Mumbai-based start-up founders have joined hands to build a ‘brand Mumbai’ for start-ups. The founders are reportedly forming an organisation that is anticipated to be named TEAM (Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai) to achieve their aim.

Harsh Jain ( co-founder of Dream 11) and Aakrit Vaish ( co-founder of Haptik) are expected to chair the organisation. TEAM will be a non-profitable organisation and will be lobbying with state policies in order to boost the entrepreneurial environment in Mumbai, Moneycontrol reported.

Right now things are in the initial stages of formation. We have got a good group together and the next steps are going to be to form the charter, elect the board, etc. and then go from there," Aakrit Vaish said.

The organisation reportedly wants to include founders from other Mumbai-based start-ups like PharmEasy, upGrad, Upstox, Zepto, and The Good Glamm Group.

The primary focus of this organisation would be establishing the financial capital Mumbai as the start-up hub in India. Since the emergence of the start-up ecosystem, Bengaluru has always enjoyed the spotlight of being the start-up hub in the country. It has also been home to India's multiple start-up unicorns. Organisations like Flipkart and Vedantu run their headquarters in Bengaluru.

With time, India's financial capital Mumbai has also shown the potential to nurture the start-up ecosystem. Currently, it houses 18 of India's 108 unicorns, the third most after Bengaluru and Delhi NCR ( National Capital Region).
