PM Modi Delivers Inaugural Address, starts with condolence for lives lost in Morocco earthquake, says India is with Morocco.

The Prime Minister said that the world needs to address and face several challenges such as North-South divide, global economic headwinds, and terrorism, among others.

As world leaders begin deliberations at the summit being held in New Delhi, there is still suspense over whether there would be a joint communique. The Prime Minister in his inaugural address said that the world needs to overcome the trust deficit.

Earlier in the day, Chief Coordinator for India's G20 presidency Harsh Vardhan Shringla, in an interview to CNBC TV18, said "Nothing is over till it's over" when he was asked about the joint communique

It is still not clear whether there would be a consensus over the statement as contentious issues such as Russian invasion of Ukraine divides the G20 leaders.

During the G20 Summit hosted by India, Prime Minister Modi delivered a keynote address, highlighting the significance of the 21st century in finding innovative solutions to long-standing challenges. He emphasized the need for a people-centered approach to address global issues and bridge the trust gaps stemming from conflicts worldwide.

As the president of the G20, India called upon the international community to convert the prevailing global trust deficit into trust and reliance, promoting unity and cooperation among nations. PM Modi invoked the mantra "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas" (together with all, development for all, trust of all, efforts of all) as a guiding principle for collective progress.

Recognizing the pressing global issues that demand collaborative solutions, Prime Minister Modi addressed regional disparities, effective management of food and fuel resources, counter-terrorism measures, cybersecurity, healthcare, energy security, and water security.

Furthermore, PM Modi expressed his condolences for the recent earthquake in Morocco and extended India's support and assistance to the affected nation, demonstrating India's commitment to standing together in times of crisis.

Currently, at the G20 Summit in New Delhi, global leaders are engaged in discussions regarding strategies to tackle the challenges presented by climate change. Developing nations argue that wealthier countries, considering their significant historical emissions, should bear greater responsibility for reducing emissions. They should also provide the necessary resources, including financial assistance and technology, to aid developing and vulnerable nations in transitioning to clean energy and adapting to climate change.

In anticipation of the summit, a groundbreaking assessment by the United Nations has revealed that countries are largely falling short of meeting their emission reduction commitments. This failure puts the planet on a dangerous trajectory towards catastrophic global warming. The report, which was released on Friday, emphasizes that governments must swiftly identify ways to reduce billions of tons of carbon dioxide if they wish to prevent global warming from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the decade.
