The Ministry of Finance denied a report claiming that the Centre has given a clean chit to Madhabi Puri Buch, chairperson of Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi). The ministry said that the report is factually incoorect.

This clarification came after India Today reported on Tuesday that Sebi chief has been given clean chit, citing top government sources. The edited report now mentions that according to government sources, allegations against Buch are false. The sources have been cited as saying that she would complete her tenure that ends in February 2025.

In the last few months, Buch has faced multiple allegations. Opposition party Indian National Congress alleged that Buch's promotion of Real Estate Investment Trusts benefitted Blackstone, a global investment firm with which her husband Dhaval Buch is associated. It also accused her of misusing her position as Sebi chairperson to favour Blackstone.
