In continuation of mass layoffs happening across the tech sector, in India and abroad, Wipro announced that it has let go of around 452 freshers who failed to clear the company’s performance tests.
“We had to let go of 452 freshers after they performed poorly in assessments repeatedly, even after training. At Wipro, we take pride in holding ourselves to the highest standards. In line with the standards we aim to set for ourselves, we expect every entry-level employee to have a certain level of proficiency in their designated area of work,” the Bengaluru-based IT services provider said in a statement.

It is understood that the internal tests were conducted after the new employees were given sufficient training. The company clarified that the internal assessment measures were required to align the employees to the business objectives of the organisation as well as to the requirement of the clients.
“This systematic and comprehensive performance evaluation process triggers a series of actions such as mentoring and retraining and in some cases separation of certain employees from the company,” the leading IT company added in its statement.
Although the company recently said that they will continue hiring for the next fiscal, there have been several reports of the company delaying the onboarding process for its new employees. However, the company has clarified that they remain committed to the offers that have already been made.
