Monday Market Rolls On A Positive Note for Sensex, Nifty

The share-market started on a positive note for the week as the benchmark indices S&P BSE Sensex gained 39.8 points or 0.11 per cent to close at 35483.47. The NSE Nifty, on the other hand, gained 19.3 points or 0.18 per cent to close at 10786.95.

At the end of the day’s trading session, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Maruti Suzuki and IndusInd Bank were the top gainers while Tata Steel, Power Grid Corp, Coal India, Hero MotoCorp and Yes Bank were the major losers.

Across global and Asian markets, the indices were on a gaining spree. Nikkei rose by 0.48 per cent, Hang Seng by 0.34 per cent, FTSE 100 by 0.85 per cent, CAC 40 by 0.25 per cent and DAX by 0.42 per cent, at the time of going to press. Only the Shanghai Composite ended with a loss of 0.47 per cent.

According to the benchmark indices, the S&P BSE Midcap Index lost 14.79 points or 0.09 per cent and stood at 16007.58 while the Small Cap Index gained 86.24 points or 0.51 per cent, and stood at 16973.37.

In the banking sector, the shares of SBI, Axis Bank and IndusInd Bank gained 0.95 points (0.35 per cent), 3.65 points (0.68 per cent), 14.45 points (0.76 per cent), respectively, whereas HDFC Bank lost 4.95 points (0.24 per cent) at the end of the day.

In the commodities sector, gold lost Rs 70 (0.22 per cent) and closed at Rs 31,145 per 10 grams and Brent Crude lost Rs 53 (1.19 per cent) and closed at Rs 4,392 per bbl, at the time of filing this report.

At the end of the day, the 10-year benchmark indices of government securities concluded at 7.9628.
